“Our proposal for a sustainable high density community provides a rich variety of architecture within a unified public realm inspired by the character and ecology of the Thames estuary and first phases of the Greenwich Millennium Village. Our interests in creating both great variety and a cohesive whole stems from our belief that the most
successful neighbourhoods are all about this balance. We propose an accessible environment which fosters diverse neighbourhoods, encourages contact and neighbourliness, is infused with the local ecology and creates a place of strong character and memory.”

Pear tree square, Mixed use block L
BUILDING COMMUNITY
The evolved plan has looked to increase the active frontages at the ground floor for all sides of the Block L and to further develop the idea of a mixed-use urban block. The MUGA is now incorporated into the
Peartree Square, the
Community Garden Square releasing land on the western edge. This allows residential uses to be distributed more evenly across the block thus embedding the community and nursery more and reducing the height of the tower and its exposure to the acoustic issues. The arrangement of the community and nursery facilities are maintained but rotated to bring a more active edge to the
Peartree Square itself. The residential elements grow out of the lower two levels like extruded town houses rather than an isolated ‘point block’. This reduces the impact of the larger elements and gives a more balanced street and townscape.
Bugsby’s Way Habitat Bund: Block S-V
Blocks S-V provides new homes and significant car parking at the edge
of new Greenwich Millennium Village phases. Particular attention has
been given to the design of quality homes at this location at the edge
of the site and constrained by Bugsby Way. They have been designed
to simultaneously enjoy the southerly aspect and be protected from the
noise and air quality of Bugsby Way and deliver a residential, terraced
street. This is achieved through the significant mitigation offered by
a multi level, linear landscape and a sectional response to typology
delivering dual aspect homes.
