Project overview
As a result of S333’s work to explore development scenarios around Zaandam station, we were commissioned to design a new park next to the station and overlooking the adjacent wetlands.

This involved sealing a 20m high existing waste dump with 43,000 m3 of semi-polluted earth from a nearby building site, adding a membrane, topsoil and planting. Mowing, planting and profiling the gardens at different intervals will create environments for wild grasses and flowers. Air agitators, acoustic flowers and coloured light sticks will transform the mountain into an adventure playground.

A hidden lake caps the ‘mountain experience’, functioning as a skating rink in the winter and as a vast reflective pool in the summer.
