Originally conceived as Buena Vista Science Park, One-North has developed far beyond the traditional office park. In 1995, Singapore's Science Hub Steering Committee set a goal to develop a creative community centred on knowledge-based industries and the idea of innovation ecology, or efficient information sharing.
A comprehensive mixed-use approach was taken to create office clusters that are interconnected by pockets of housing, live/work spaces, retail spaces, and parks. Transit stations and convenient highway access, both existing and planned, attach one-north to central Singapore. More than just "live-work," this community aims for a "live-work-play-learn" mix of uses.
The Fusionpolis ICT office building will provide a hub for organisations with global/regional operations in Singapore, offering modular ‘smart’ spaces, seminar rooms with 3D conferencing facilities, AV rooms, data hosting facilities, medical, courier, accounting, secretarial, transport and travel facilities.
The Fusionpolis 200 room, 4-star hotel will provide ‘overnight stay’ en suite rooms and ‘medium stay’ studio’s hotel suites with gym, swimming pool, restaurant & bar, games rooms. The office accommodation is aimed primarily for short stay business travellers.

The project utilizes proposes modular prefabrication for all ICT and Hotel room components as a means to reduce on-site construction time and cost while ensuring quality control.
Battle McCarthy assisted with sustainability to minimize the carbon footprint. Electricity dependence on the national grid will be reduced using rooftop photovoltaic panels to supplement lighting. The double-skin and deep façade provide natural cooling and minimal heat absorption. Smart waste systems for re-cycling and separating grey water and waste are integrated into the building services.
The car park and basement levels are naturally ventilated. Plants create living walls to absorb CO2 and underground moisture. A planted perimeter drain collects and filters car park run-off before reaching storm water drains. Openings over the car park provide natural ventilation and daylight. Courts are densely packed with oxygen rich jungle plants to provide high quality air, which is then pre-cooled and fed into the atria and offices. The roofs are cover with plants to generate oxygen rich air help with rainwater absorption.
